Duyos Beach in Basilisa, Dinagat Islands

Two months ago I wrote about Bitaog Beach, an unspoiled white sand beach in Basilisa, Dinagat Islands. Located on the same island 5-10 minutes away by boat from Bitaog is Duyos Beach, also a white sand beach. Duyos Beach resort is wider than Bitaog Beach. It has a really nice sandbar and has more cottages, a store, videoke machine, a wide grilling area and comfort/shower room. Overnight stay and tent pitching are allowed in the resort.

We visited Duyos Beach on the same day that we visited Bitaog Beach. From Nonoc Island, we traveled for an hour and a half by boat to get to Duyos Beach and arrived there around 8 in the morning. We have just gotten off the boat when it started to rain. We decided to rent a cottage so we can eat our breakfast comfortably. Cottages cost Php 300.00 ($ 6 USD). After having breakfast, we spent the rest of the morning enjoying the clear waters and taking groufies every now and then.

Though Bitaog is more beautiful and has a finer sand than Duyos, Duyos is more crowded/touristy probably because it is wider and the cottages are cheaper. Some parts of the beach have fine white sand while the other parts have small corals fragments.

We were having fun floating and swimming in the water when this boat arrived. The purpose of posting this picture is to give you an idea how crowded the resort could get during weekends,

There were plenty of sea stars in the water.

How to Get There

From Manila to Surigao City:

As of the moment, there are no direct flights to Surigao City. You can take a flight from Manila to Cebu then Cebu to Surigao City. Alternatively, you can take a flight to Butuan City and from Butuan take a van or bus to Surigao City. Vans bound for Surigao City are available at the airport and near the bus terminal. Van fare to Surigao City is Php 180.00 ($ 3.60 USD). For the bus, you need to ride a multicab at the airport to get to the bus terminal. Bus name is Bachelor. Look for the one bound for Surigao City. The multicab fare is Php 20.00 ($ 0.40 USD) and bus fare to Surigao City is Php 230.00 ($ 4.60 USD). The travel time for the van is around 2.5 to 3 hours while it takes 4 hours for the bus. However, I prefer taking the bus since it is more comfortable and safer (vans are overloaded).

To get to Duyos Beach from Surigao City, you have two options:

  • Option 1: From Surigao City Pier, take a boat bound to Basilisa, Dinagat Islands. From there you can hire a pump boat for an island hopping tour in Dinagat Islands.
  • Option 2: You can contact our boatman Kuya Jimmy at 09071178718 and arrange an island hopping tour with him. He’ll pick you up at Punta Bilang-bilang in Surigao City.
