32 Days of Palawan Cherry Blossom

Last Updated on August 21, 2020 by Tina

32 Days of Palawan Cherry Blossom was originally published on August 17, 2016. This was the very first post on my blog back when my domain name was adventuresoftina. I had very little knowledge of blogging back then, and I was able to purchase the domain and web hosting from GoDaddy at a very cheap price. I really wasn’t sure yet what I wanted to write about, so for 5 months, I didn’t write anything. Then after my solo trip to Hong Kong in January 2017, I wrote a few posts about that trip. And now that we’re still not able to travel, I am going over my previous posts and I’m trying to update each of them.

While most people go to Japan to enjoy the view of cherry blossom trees in bloom, I was lucky enough that I need not go far just to experience this. The Palawan cherry blossom in our staff house in Nonoc Island was in bloom when we arrived there for my 32-day fieldwork. I have seen this tree in bloom the year before but was not able to take a picture so when I had the opportunity to do it, I decided I am going to take a picture of the tree every day for the rest of my 32 days stay on the island.

Photos of the tree were taken at different times, some were taken in the morning, some at noon, most in the afternoon, and one was taken at night when I almost forgot to take a picture of the tree for that day. All photos were taken using my Asus ZenFone Selfie 2 phone so apologies for the photo quality.

The Palawan cherry blossom is the Philippines’ very own cherry blossom tree and it is locally known as balayong. It is a small to medium-sized tree and produces light pink flowers in clusters similar to the ones in Japan.

In Puerto Princesa, Palawan, they have a park where you can see Palawan cherry blossom. It is called Balayong Park and the trees are in full bloom every February up to summer. The city also hosts the must-see Balayong Festival every last week of February up to March, in celebration of the blooms.
